CarGuys Map lets car enthusiasts form private crews and see each other live on a map. It's made by Raybits. Because the app is built around sharing your location, this page explains exactly what we collect, who can see it, and how to delete it.
Information we collect
| Data | Why we collect it |
|---|---|
| Account details | Your email address, username, display name, and password (stored only as a secure hash, never in readable form). Used to sign you in, let friends find you, and send password-reset codes. |
| Car details (optional) | Make, model, year and color, if you add them. Shown on your profile to friends and crewmates. |
| Location | Your position, heading and speed, collected only while the app is open on your screen. Shared live with the crews you choose. We store only your latest position. No location history is kept. |
| Friends & crews | Your friends list, friend requests, crews, crew roles, invites, and per-crew sharing settings. |
| Meet-up pins | Meet-up locations, titles, notes and times set by crew owners or admins. They expire automatically. |
| Push notification token | Issued by Firebase Cloud Messaging if you allow notifications, so we can tell you about friend requests, crew invites and meet-ups. |
| Account record | A short record of your username, car description, sign-up date and, if you delete your account, deletion date. See Retention & deletion. |
We don't collect your contacts, photos, or background location, and we don't sell your data or use it for advertising. The app has no ads.
Who can see your location
- Only members of crews you belong to and have sharing turned on for.
- You can switch sharing off per crew, or turn on ghost mode to hide from every crew at once.
- When you leave or are removed from a crew, its members stop seeing you immediately.
- Friends who aren't in a crew with you can't see your location.
Third-party services
- Google Maps displays the map in the app. Google may collect device information when map tiles load. See Google's Privacy Policy.
- Google Routes API. When a crew has a meet-up pin, our server sends your current position and the meet-up location to Google to calculate your route and arrival time. No name or account details are sent.
- Firebase Cloud Messaging (Google) delivers push notifications. See Firebase's Privacy and Security policy.
- Microsoft Azure hosts our servers and database.
- Email delivery. Password-reset codes are sent through an email delivery service, which receives your email address only to deliver that message.
Retention & deletion
Your account data is kept while your account exists. You can delete your account at any time in the app (Profile → Delete account) or as described on our account deletion page. Deletion is permanent and removes your profile, car details, login, last location, friends, requests, invites and crew memberships. Crews you own pass to another member, or are deleted if you're the only member.
After deletion we keep the short account record described above (your former username, car description, and sign-up and deletion dates) as an internal log of who has used the app. It contains no email address, password, or location. To have this record removed as well, email us.
Password-reset codes expire after 15 minutes. Meet-up pins expire 6 hours after their set time, or 24 hours after creation if no time is set.
Security
All traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted (HTTPS). Passwords are stored only as salted hashes. Sign-in tokens are kept in your device's secure storage.
Children's privacy
CarGuys Map is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone in that age group. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after a change means you accept the updated policy.
