DotaCompanion is a companion app for Dota 2 players, covering hero and item reference, patch notes, esports schedules, and player lookups. It's made by Raybits. This page explains what information the app collects, why, and how it's used. We've kept the app's data footprint deliberately small: there's no account system, no login, and no name or email ever requested.
Information we collect
| Data | Why we collect it |
|---|---|
| Anonymous device identifier | A random ID generated on your device at first launch, not tied to your name, email, or any account. Used to remember your favorites and Pro status. |
| Push notification token | Issued by Firebase Cloud Messaging if you allow notifications, so we can alert you when a new Dota 2 patch is released. |
| Favorited heroes | The hero IDs you've favorited, stored against your device identifier so they persist between sessions. |
| Purchase receipt data | If you buy Pro Tools, Apple or Google sends us a signed transaction receipt to verify the purchase. We never see or store your card details. |
| Advertising identifiers | Collected by Google AdMob (see below) on free-tier devices, to serve and measure ads. |
We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, precise location, contacts, or photos. There is no sign-up or login anywhere in the app.
Third-party services
- Google AdMob shows ads to free-tier users and may collect device and advertising identifiers to serve and personalize ads. See Google's Privacy Policy.
- Firebase Cloud Messaging (Google) delivers push notifications. See Firebase's Privacy and Security policy.
- Apple App Store / Google Play Billing process in-app purchases. All payment and card information is handled by Apple or Google, never by us.
- Twitch. The live stream viewer loads Twitch's own mobile site inside the app, including its chat. Anything you do there is governed by Twitch's Privacy Notice.
- Game data sources. Hero, item, and patch data is fetched from OpenDota, Valve's official Dota 2 data feed, Liquipedia, and Twitch. These calls happen from our server and never transmit your personal information.
Data retention & deletion
Your device identifier and anything tied to it (favorites, Pro status) are kept until you ask us to delete them. Since there's no account system, we can only locate your data by device identifier. Email us with that ID, shown on the app's Settings screen, and we'll delete it from our database.
Children's privacy
DotaCompanion is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone in that age group. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we'll remove it.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after a change means you accept the updated policy.
